What is TipMe?
TipMe is a digital tipping platform that allows informal workers in South Africa to receive cashless donations using unique QR codes linked to their profiles.
Who can use TipMe?
Informal workers (like car guards or vendors) can receive tips, while anyone with a smartphone can donate using a secure online payment process.
Is registration required?
Yes. Both donors and recipients need to register. Donors can use email, and recipients must provide ID and bank details for verification.
What is the platform fee?
TipMe retains a small fee (5–10%) per donation for operational costs. The rest (90–95%) goes directly to the recipient.
Can donors stay anonymous?
Yes. Donors can choose to donate anonymously, though the donation will still appear in their private history.
How secure is TipMe?
TipMe uses trusted payment gateways (like PayFast) and manual KYC verification to ensure user safety and prevent fraud.
Can I view my donation history?
Yes. Donors can access a record of all donations made, and recipients can track their earnings via a mobile-friendly dashboard.
Will I get a tax certificate?
Yes. Donors can generate Section 18A tax certificates for SARS at the end of the tax year.

How long does it take to sign up?
Just a few minutes. Once your details are verified, you’ll receive your QR code and can begin receiving tips.
Do I need a smartphone to use TipMe?
Yes. Recipients need a smartphone to access their dashboard. Donors just need a phone with a camera and internet access.
Recipients questions
How do I register as a recipient?
Download the TipMe app or visit the website. You’ll need:
Your full name
Mobile number
Bank account or mobile wallet details
(Optional) Your work category and a profile photo
What is the purpose of the QR code?
Your QR code is unique to your profile. Donors scan it to access your donation page. You can display the QR code on a lanyard, badge, or printed card.
How do I receive my money?
After receiving donations, you can request a withdrawal to your linked bank account or mobile wallet from your dashboard.
Do I need an ID to sign up?
Yes. To prevent fraud, all recipients must submit a valid South African ID and bank details for identity verification (KYC).
What happens if I lose my QR code?
You can re-download or request a replacement from your TipMe dashboard.
Donors questions
How do I make a donation?
Simply scan a recipient’s QR code with your phone camera. You’ll be redirected to their tip page where you can select an amount and pay securely.
What payment methods are accepted?
TipMe supports secure local payment platforms including PayFast, credit/debit cards, SnapScan, Zapper, and mobile wallets.
Can I donate anonymously?
Yes. You may choose to stay anonymous, and your donation will still be recorded in your private history.
Can I view my donation history?
Yes. As a donor, you can log in and view a full record of your past donations.
Will I get a tax certificate?
Yes. Donors can generate Section 18A tax certificates for SARS from their profile at the end of the tax year.

Absolutely. We use trusted payment gateways and manual KYC checks to ensure both donors and recipients are protected.
What if I suspect fraud?
Report it via the platform immediately. Our admin team will investigate and suspend or deactivate suspicious accounts.
Who verifies recipient accounts?
All recipient accounts are manually reviewed and verified by TipMe administrators.
